What is Reiki?
Reiki is a technique, originally from Japan, which promotes physical healing, helps with stress reduction and relaxation and can stimulate a sense of spiritual opening. It is a simple laying on of hands based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress; and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which is the loosely translated as Universal Life Force or Higher Power, and Ki, which refers to an individual's life force. The coming together of these two energetic powers provides the basis of Reiki.
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use this powerful technique. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from an energetic force that connects us all (some call it God, others the Source), many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it. Others simply find that it helps them to be more in harmony with the world around them.
Reiki is a unique experience for everyone who practices, but it's benefits are universal.
